- 📅 Block off your calendars, and make plans to attend on 17 November from 12:00 - 14:00
Consider becoming a representative #
Your bargaining unit is large and diverse and your representatives should be … representative. There are many ways to be a representative, and many different types of reps.
If you’re interested in supporting your colleagues, building a more equitable workplace, ensuring a safer and healthier workplace, supporting your colleagues’ learning and development, or bringing your perspective as a young worker, there are rep roles for you.
- 👉 Your current reps are organising training for people interested in becoming reps. To register your interest in training, sign up in the union slack. (not in the slack? read on for details on how to join)
- 👉 Do you think a colleague would make a great rep? Why not tell them?
Consider running for branch office #
Your union branch is run by a “branch executive committee.” This committee will be elected at the AGM and will serve for a year.
Some members of the committee have additional responsibilities, these committee members are “branch officials.” Branch officials include: President, Vice President, Secretary, Branch Organiser, and Treasurer. To learn more about the roles, review the model branch rules.
- 📅 If you’re interested in serving on the branch executive committee, email nomination@section787.org by end of day 28 October.
- 👉 Do you think a colleague would make a great branch official? Why not tell them?
Propose rules and motions to shape how your union branch is run #
The AGM is also where you’ll decide how your union branch is run and what you and your colleagues should focus on.
There are two types of motions you’ll propose and vote on at the AGM:
- Procedure and rules motions
- Positional motions
Procedure and rules motions amend the branch rules. Positional motions instruct the branch committee to address a specific issue or take a specific action. Read more about motions.
- 📅 To submit a motion, email motion@section787.org by end of day 28 October.
- 👉 Do you have an idea for a motion? Why not discuss it with your colleagues and write it together?

Are you a member but not in the union slack yet? #
Start with this link to join. If you do not have access to this link, your membership hasn't been set up yet. If it's more than 48 hours after joining Prospect, contact Prospect.
Once you have a Tech Workers slack account, message any rep to get added to the Skyscanner space. We expect communication tools to be a topic of motions at the AGM, but until then, joining the Tech Workers Slack is a good way of keeping up to date.
Have questions? #
If you have questions, please raise them in the union slack or raise them with a rep. Your reps will also be organising information sessions about representatives and motions in the coming weeks.
